Final Song Choice!

There was a lot of debate of the music in the film, originally I thought about using a classical piece of music, however when I started to research the genre, it didn't work with the film. I also couldn't seem to find a piece of classical music that had enough suspense, so I had to re think things. I eventually thought of using a Radiohead song, because they have an eerie feel and fits perfectly with the film. In the end I decided on using 'The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy', the song has a very 'stalker' vibe which matches our film, and also the end lyrics are very potent - "So glad, so glad you're mine", this line is repeated 4 times in the film it is when the car is driving off, which implies that the girl who just got in car may not be seen again.

Final Storyboards!

The final storyboards have changed from the original ones, this is mainly because the shots didn't flow and it didn't really make sense, also when it came to properly editing the film and adding the transitions they didn't go well together. So I came up with a new set of storyboards that matched the film and made sense. The film is now easy for the audience to understand and the cliff hanger ending leaves a lot to the audiences imagination.

Another name idea!

Last night while thinking of a name for our thriller, I came up with maybe 'Misconceived Duress'. Misconceived is another name for mistaken and Duress means a compulsion to threat or force. This comes into it by the girl being sent threat text messages, then she is forced into the car.

Original Storyboards!

These are the storyboards that we came up with, however we did not use them due to the story line having to be changed. So I (RACHEL!) will be re doing these over half term and making them match the current clip, with relevent scenes, camera angles, transitions, titles and music.

Problem with naming our film!

After looking into the name of our thriller film that we came up with "Mistaken identity", Rachel decided it did not look right with our film. So at this moment in time we are trying to think of another name, that still relates to our first idea, but make it better. Mistaken Identity gave too much of the thriller away and didn't look very good, when I made the video.

Even though our film is all finished, we are still having problems at coming up with a name for it. We have looked on dictionary to see if we can find alternative words to see if it can sound better, but still no luck. So far RACHEL has come up with these ideas;

  • Unknown Receiver - I came up with this idea after thinking how when you normally answer a phone call you know the caller, however in our thriller instead of the caller's identity being unknown, it is the receiver's identity which is.
  • Identity In Doubt - I again (Rachel!) came up with this name idea after basing it on 'Mistaken Identity' however making the name sound more mysterious and not so obvious.

Editing 7!

Out of my past music choices, I came up with two tracks that I wanted to feature in the film; The Amazing Sounds of Orgy (TASO)- Radiohead and Comfortably Numb (CN) - Pink Floyd. For the first part of the film I was going to have TASO being played, this was because it has a nice walking beat and adds an eerie tension to the woodland scene. Then as the girl got the phone box CN was going to be played this was mainly because it has rather thrilling lyrics that would have fitted in the film idea nicely - "Hello? Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home?"

However when I imported both songs into Premier Pro, when the two songs switched between each other, it sounded awful, so instead TASO is going to be played throughout the whole of the film.

Editing 6!

Today I got a lot of the editing done, and in terms of transitions, music and titling the film is nearly finished - just got the effects left to finish. For my titling I chose to keep it simple yet striking, so I have a white text on a black background. I choose this because the white really stands out against the black and catches the audiences attention, also it works very well with the video transitions because when the titles are in the film, the black dissolve transition makes the entrance and exit look really smooth.

I chose to put the first set of titles at the very beginning of the film because it introduces the film, and with the background music adds to the building tension. My cinema name 'Revolution Cinemas' was a creation after a lot of thinking about the background context of the film, and how the opening of our film is very unique and could start a new trend in film openings.

'Fradgers & Kay Productions' was a blend of my nickname and Lauren's surname, by having this in the film it adds a personal spin on the film however still looking some what professional. The names of the actors who feature in the film, are positioned before the walk through the woodland and just after, I put them there because firstly blended in well with the transitions and secondly that walk is an important part of the clip because it features many different camera angles.

Name & Titles!

For our thriller we wanted to keep the name simple, so due to the plot we decided on 'Mistaken Identity'. Even the title has an eerie feel about it and it gives a certain amount of the film away, although it could be interpreted in many ways.

As for the name, we wanted to keep the titling simple but understated, so the clip speaks for its self, we didn't want anything too loud or busy because it would take attention away from the film. Whilst looking on http://www.dafont.com/ earlier, I came up with these ideas. From the titles below I chose image number 3, because I think the simple font goes well with the simplicity of the film, and also because it hasn't got a certain style (for example = looks like its written in blood) it implies that the film has a mysterious ending.

Editing 5!

After the girl has received the phone call and is walking off, we unfortunately only filmed it from one shot which is very long, but I didn't just want to cut bits out because it would have been too short for the 2 minutes and also it would not have been as 'dragged' out as I wanted it to be. I wanted the audience to almost feel like the walk was going on for ages and that the girl had the phone call playing on her mind.

So to conquer this, I again spilt the scene into 4 parts, but instead of having it like before where the different screens show the girl from different angles, instead each box is a different part of the walk, showing the length of it. I think having the two parts of the screen being spilt, shows the similarty of the two girls and also breaks up the clip, so its not just a block clip.

Editing 4!

Today whilst editing I noticed that the beginning of film breaks the rules of continuity, which means all the little details are the same. In the very first scene when she recieves the text message, the girls hoddy is undone and the hood hanging down and she then walks out the door. In the next scene which is when the audience see her leave the house, her hoody is done up and the hood over her head.

We would re-film the scene but unfortnately now we don't have the time so we will just have to make sure the film looks as good as it can. I will also be writing about this in my evalution and the things I would have changed to make sure this hadn't of happened.

Rachel Fradgley :)

Editing 3!

Whilst filming, we filmed lots of walking shots all from different angles - climbing up ladders and tree stumps to get high angle shots, us and the camera laying on the floor to get low angle shots, hiding in trees to create tracking shots. But when we started editing, we realised that we had to much footage of the girl walking to the phone box, but we didn't really want to delete some on the scenes because they looked good and we worked hard to achieve them.

We played around editing certain bits out, and cutting all the scenes down to see if we could fit it all into the 2 minutes, but we couldn't. So we stuck to just a few shots, but this did not create the right feel of the girl being troubled and the idea that people are stalking her to make sure that she goes to the phone box to receive the phone call.

So to re-create the feeling of the girl being followed, we spilt the scene into 4 sections, and in section is a different clip of her walking through the woods. All the different angles imply to the audience that the girl is being followed. This section also 'breaks' the film up, because a lot of our film is of the walk to the phone box and how the anticipation builds, hence we did not want to cut all the walking scenes out.

Editing 2!

We have now fully finished filming so today we started editing, and found out that part one of our film is longer than the two minutes and that is without part two. So we are going to do more deleting of film at lunch, however we are going to have delete a lot of film to make sure it fits within the two minute boundry.

Filming Attempt 3!

After trying to edit last week we discovered that in fact we needed to film again due to some of the filim being too dark, so last night we again re-filmed the outside scenes but instead of the end scenes we did the first. The lighting was very similar so when the film and the colour is edited, the film should look like it was all filmed in one take. We can now fully concentrate on editing. :D

Music Inspiration 2!

After discussing what kind of music we want in our thriller we decided that we wanted it to be modern rather than a classical piece of music, this was mainly because our thriller is aimed at the 16-25 target audience so I think a modern piece of music would be better suited because the audience would be able to relate to it better.

However we still wanted the 'eerie' feel that classical music can have to it, and that's when we began listening to Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash.

The National Anthem - Radiohead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n02PhHaeRG4

Costume Change!

Due to our plot and characters changing we in turn had to slightly change the costume, now both of our characters are wearing red hoodies. This is also makes the story a little more believable because one girl wearing a red hoody can easily be mistaken for another girl wearing a red hoody.

Also whilst editing we realised that we can't have all the film in black and white but the red hoody still red, so once we have re-filmed part one we are going to decide whether to have the whole film in colour or black and white.

Rachel Fradgley :)

Editing 1!

Whilst editing today, we realised that even though we filmed at the same time on both days, the lighting was different - so in the first part of the video it is nearly dark outside, whereas in the second part it is very light. So we are now going to be re-filming part one next week.

Filming Attempt 2!

For our second filming attempt, we left earlier so we could film the outside scenes whilst it was still light. We thankfully managed to finish all our filming today so we can now fully concentrate on editing. Our main aims for the moment are to finish editing by finding the right music, the right editing techniques and movie credits.

Rachel Fradgley :)

Filming Attempt 1!

Our first filming attempt didn't really go to plan, purely because we started filiming too late in the day, so the footage we did manage to take was just too dark to use and most of the video could not be seen cleary. However we've finished our inside scenes meaning we can now edit them. Just our outside scenes to film and then the filiming is all finished!

Costume!

After thinking about what kind of clothes our characters should wear, we decided that the main victim should just wear dark clothing like jeans and a navy hoodie, and the other character should wear a red hoodie. The colour RED signifies danger and because our film is in black and white, and the only colour will be red, this will stand out to the audience.

Another Plot Change!

Due to one of our actors pulling out on the day of filming, we had to alter the plot slightly, so instead of having a boy receive the text messages, we now have a girl receiving them. However we this can be used to our advantage because it makes more sense for a girl to mistaken for another girl then a girl getting mistaken for another boy. Although I now have to play the other girl, I will film the sections of the clip that I am not in, whilst Lauren films the parts that I am in.
